Lucas, TX Air Conditioning Repair and Service
History of Lucas
Lucas is located in southeastern Collin County and is north of nearby towns Parker and Wylie. The town’s history dates back to the early 1800s. Lucas is named after Gabriel H. Lucas, the son of one of the city’s earliest settlers. Gabriel Lucas was responsible for opening one of the town’s first stores in 1870. Throughout history, the town’s economy depended largely upon cotton and corn production. While Lucas had a fairly small population for more than a century, the town has experienced significant growth over the past few decades.
Lucas is a small town, covering just 11.73 square miles between all of its land and the water area of Lavon Lake. Families enjoy the wildlife environment found near the lake as well as the easy access to fishing. While Lucas residents enjoy the country feeling and small town culture within their town, they also reap the benefits of convenient city access to nearby Allen, North Dallas, Richardson and Plano. Lucas residents can also take advantage of the city’s equestrian trail that stretches on for nine miles.
Lucas started out small and didn’t really begin to attract new residents until nearby Dallas started to grow. New housing developments in Lucas helped the town grow from a small farming community into a large and populated rural suburb. In 1970, the city became incorporated. By 1984, the town’s population grew to 1,500 because there were so many new residents living in Lucas and holding full-time jobs in Dallas. By 2000, the population increased to 2,890 people. Just 10 years later, the population had nearly doubled to include 5,116 residents.
